What is peacemaking?

Peace can be defined in many different ways. In the context of my mediation practice, peacemaking seeks to help people in conflict resolve their differences and restore relationships with one another.

I am adept at facilitative and evaluative styles of mediation. However, every mediation is unique and my mediation style is shaped by the specifics of the mediation at hand. Typically I will begin a mediation using a facilitative style but I will adjust my approach as I learn more about the parties and their dispute and am able to discern and assess the roadblocks to resolution.

What is your mediation style?

I’m a plaintiff’s attorney and you spent the majority of your career working for a major energy company. Why should I hire you as a mediator?

Good question. While I was an in-house lawyer, my client was the organization and not any individual executive or business manager. One of my primary jobs was to understand at a very deep level the good, the bad and the ugly about the company's most important lawsuits and arbitrations in North America.  Often times this resulted in my delivering and defending not-so-welcome news to our senior business leaders. Stated differently, my job was to evaluate cases skillfully and recommend and pursue the right strategy, whether that was fighting or seeking a resolution. All that is to say that I have a very thorough understanding of how lawsuits should be assessed by companies and can easily spot when a case has not been properly prepared or rigorously evaluated. In the latter situation, as a mediator, I am able to help litigants recognize their risks and help lead them to productive solutions.
